Camphill School is an independent Section 21 school. As such, it receives a limited subsidy from the Western Cape Education Department (WCED), which covers only about 20% of the School’s budget. More than 85% of our learners are drawn from disadvantaged local communities, where most families are able to make only a very small contribution to the school fees, which are currently R2 500 per month for day learners and R8 000 per month for residential pupils. The School is, therefore, obliged to raise approximately 65% of its budgeted income from other sources.
It makes use of a number of strategies to meet its financial needs:
- By submitting fundraising appeals to local and international philanthropic and corporate donors
- By appealing for in-kind donations of various kinds
- By organising several fundraising events a year (Click here for information on upcoming events)
- By means of promoting child sponsorships (Click here for more information)
- By encouraging voluntary participation in projects, eg maintenance of buildings
- By means of bequests
